Calculated, that on the market you can find more than two thousand different models of door locks. Before you decide to choose one of them, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the types of castles, as well as information, encrypted in symbols, defining their properties.
First, a short definition from the internet: the lock is a mechanism, built into the door, protective access for a specific, limited space, usually, opens with a key. Consists of two main parts - a key recognition system and a latch mechanism.
The definition is figurative. Not all locks are built into doors, and not everyone needs a key. One common feature of most locks is the use of a unique code, written in the key, magnetic card or in the lock mechanism. Let's start with the types of locks.
Views
Locks, first of all, should be divided in according to the method of their installation. You have a choice:
- mortise
- superficial
Mortise
Mounted inside the door, in a specially prepared hole. The crossbar, after turning the key, enters the reinforced holes in the jamb, thereby blocking the door.
A separate type of mortise locks are hook locks. The crossbar is shaped like a massive hook, and slides out of the lock box after half a turn. Because of, that hook locks take up less space and do not need such a deep hole in the wing, they are selected for PVC doors, aluminum and HDF. Often designed for interior doors - to the bathroom, restroom.
Surface
Surface locks are attached to the door. Most often, one side opens with a key, and on the other - with a handle or latch.
Surface locks can be installed on doors, which are too thin, to put a mortise lock on them. They can also provide additional protection., used also then, when you are inside the apartment.
According to experts, mortise locks guarantee a high level of security. The reason is simple - it is more difficult to overcome the security system fixed in the door structure., than installed on their surface. Of course, much also depends on the type of lock, pads, etc.. d., what we will write about in the further part of the text.
Mention should also be made of multipoint locks. They can be as superficial, and mortise. Installed most often in burglar-proof doors. They differ from ordinary locks in that, that instead of one bolt locking the door, have several crossbars (eg, seven), which close doors in two planes - from the side and from above / from below. Of course, in this case mortise locks are also the best option, not only because of the higher security, but also for aesthetic reasons. The headquarters system located on the doors does not look aesthetically pleasing.
Another way to separate locks concerns method of encoding information, with which you can open the door. In the assortment of the store "Bezpeka24" you will find locks:
- mechanical
- electromechanical
Mechanical
These are traditional castles, used most often. They are inexpensive, effective, maintenance-free and do not need power supply. The bolt is moved by turning the key. Safety depends on the combination of teeth, cuts and cuts on the key.
Some manufacturers in top models also use magnetic key coding. Before you open the door, the lock must recognize the uniqueness of the key. This gives double protection - mechanical and magnetic code.
Electromechanical
Also called electronic, new, safer solution, you can purchase an electronic lock here. In this case, we are dealing with a combination of a traditional electronic lock. Instead of a regular key, the client receives a card or key fob with encoded information, which allows you to open the door. Code subject to change. When reading the necessary information, an electrical impulse releases the lock and allows you to open the door with the handle in the traditional way.
Electromechanical locks are divided into:
- off-line
- on-line
Off-line most often used in offices, institutions and even apartments. They are not connected to the central system and each lock works independently. Locks on-line used mainly in hotels. This solution makes it possible to open the lock using registration. Не остается без значения в этом случае – безопасности гостей. At the moment of fire danger, you can easily unlock all doors and make it easier, thus, evacuation.
Electronic locks require battery power (for example AA) or network.
On the market you will also find electromagnetic locks, which are very often used in staircase doors (work with intercoms and electronic code keypads), can be controlled from the remote control. Are called they are electric latches. The principle of operation is simple, an electrical impulse activates the electromagnet and allows the door to be opened.
Talking about locks, not to be missed models:
- keyboard
- switchable
- biometric
Combination locks can also be divided into mechanical and electronic, depending on how the code is saved. Digital information is encoded in electronic, in mechanical, we are dealing with a combination of spring-loaded cams, in the correct order to unlock the handle. Combination locks are not recommended for exterior doors. Despite, that all combination locks allow you to easily and quickly change the code, deciphering them is not at all difficult. enough, what man, who wants to get into your house will hide in the bushes with a high-magnification camera and record the moment, when you enter the code.
The superiority of a mechanical lock over an electronic one is obvious - no current is needed. But, in electronic locks, you can enter a more complex combination. Good, if the lock is electronic coded, also makes it possible to open the door with a key. Then the advantage of the mechanical lock is reduced.
Another option are biometric locks, that recognize previously encoded fingerprints. Just put your finger on the reader, wait a while, until the fingerprint is identified and the doors open. Modern biometric locks allow you to encode even several hundred different fingerprints. Thanks to this, they can be successfully used in companies or in offices..
Classification of locks
Thinking about buying a castle, which has been thoroughly tested, and thanks to this, its effectiveness has been confirmed by research and, respectively, qualifies, select a model with a certificate. Research is carried out on the basis of the norm PN-EN 12209:2005 and include a very wide range of lock applications, starting from its economic category and ending with key identification. Research results are stored in a 12-digit qualification code, where the last digit refers to research according to the standard PN-EN 1300.
When it comes to burglary resistance, the most important points are 7 and 12. Let's try to decipher the lock classifier code.
First digit defines a category which is divided into three classes:
- 1 - apartments,
- 2 - office,
- 3 - schools.
Second designation refers to the service life of the latch under a certain load. This parameter is defined by twelve classes - A, B, C, F, G, H, L, M, R, S, W, X, and the class is the lowest - characterized by strength at the level 50 000 no load cycles, and the largest X - 200 000 cycles under load 120 n.
Third subparagraph speaks of the resistance of the lock in the door to a certain mass and wind force. The class is indicated by a number from 1 to 9. For most locks, used in houses and apartments, this classification does not have the slightest significance, because 1 the class of the lock is intended for use of doors weighing 100 kg and closing force up to 50 n.
Fourth item – огнестойкость: 0 - not suitable for fire-rated doors, 1 - the lock is suitable for fire-resistant doors.
The fifth point concerns safety.
Sixth digit describes the resistance of the lock to corrosion and temperature. Eight classes.
Class | Corrosion resistance and temperature |
---|---|
ABOUT | no immunity indicated |
BUT | low / undefined resistance to temp. |
B | medium / unspecified resistance per pace. |
C | high / unspecified resistance to temp. |
D | high / unspecified resistance to temp. |
E | average / - 20aboutwith to +80aboutC |
F | high / - 20aboutwith to +80aboutC |
G | high / - 20aboutwith to +80aboutC |
As we have already mentioned, very important and often represented by certification bodies is subparagraph seven, defining level of security. These are seven classes, figures indicated.
Class | Drilling safety and resilience |
---|---|
1 | minimal, without drilling resistance |
2 | low, without drilling resistance |
3 | average, without drilling resistance |
4 | high, without drilling resistance |
5 | high, designed for drilling |
6 | very high, without drilling resistance |
7 | very high, designed for drilling |
In paragraph eight the type of lock and its scope are indicated, depending on the type of door. To 16 classes:
A, S - mortise, any doors
B, H, K, P - mortise, swing door
C, L - mortise, sliding doors
D, T - top, any doors
E, J, M, R - top, swing door
F, N - top, sliding doors
Number nine talks about the type of lock. This item, rather, irrelevant, because at the purchase stage, most customers do not have specific requirements. Nine grades anyway, described by the letters O, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H.
Tenth point – кода указывает на тип механизма, applied in the castle and distinguishes five classes, who say little what to the buyer and, likely, remain unaffected by choice.
Number eleventh encrypted term key identification. Classification, described by letters - A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H - defines the minimum number of elements. Lowest class (ABOUT), makes no requirements in this regard, the tallest (H) requires, at least, eight elements.
Twelfth part of the classification code regarding burglary resistance, the study is carried out on the basis of the norm PN-EN 1300. Experts check, how long will the lock withstand burglary attempts: drilling, attempted cutting, knocking out, etc.. d. Five classes.
Class | Minimum resistance time in minutes |
---|---|
ABOUT, T | 0 |
BUT | 1 |
B | 3 |
C | 6 |
PN-EN standard 1300 also determines resistance to picking locks HSL (High Security Locks), specialized use - for safes, cabinets, safes, bank premises, etc.. d. There are four classes - A, B, C, D. The resistance level grows along with the next letter of the alphabet..
Earbuds
Choosing a lock for an apartment or office, it is worth considering buying a model with a replaceable liner / core, which is a kind of intermediary between the lock and the key. In the event of a malfunction, lost or stolen keys do not require replacement of the entire lock, but only earbuds.
The core of the lock is used in most, available on the market mortise locks. Liner construction and mode of action is shown in the figure below..
In accordance with the European PN-EN standard 1303:2007 there are four types of inserts
unilateral | |
bilateral symmetrical |
|
bilateral asymmetric | |
bilateral symmetrical with ball |
The types of earbuds shown above are only the basis for additional options..
Optional accessories
Buying a castle, you must know, that this is not the end of spending. Even if you decide to do it yourself, in many cases it is necessary to purchase additional accessories. This is what is most often bought additionally:
- liners
- pens
- latches / transom clamps
Mortise locks, usually, sold without handles. The market offers a lot in this matter: you have a choice of door handles in various shapes, colors, made of various materials.
Outcome
Choosing a castle, consider several aspects. At first, where are the doors, which you want to protect, secondly, how much do you want to spend on the castle. If you live in a block, near vigilant neighbors, and at the same time you do not keep expensive works of art or electronic equipment worth tens or even hundreds of thousands of rubles in your apartment, no need to overpay. On the other hand, if you have a house outside the city, a large collection of antiques and a high-end home cinema, it is better to immediately invest in good armored doors, which will be equipped with a set of safe and high quality locks.
We wish everyone, чтобы слово “обворовали” попало в словарь архаичных слов!
