It is difficult to imagine the modern world without various metal products. Everything around has a metal frame, or other structural parts made of metal. And one of such important and widely used types of rolled metal is rolled pipes. Pipes are used almost everywhere: water systems are assembled from them- and gas supply, they are used for space heating, construction of oil pipelines and other industries. Let's take a closer look below, what exactly is pipe metal?.
First of all, its useful to note, that all pipes are characterized by certain external and internal diameters, wall thickness and length. Wherein, in the documentation, usually, only three parameters of rolled metal are indicated - external (or internal) Temperature control, wall thickness and length. If both diameters are indicated - external and internal, which happens extremely rarely, then there is no need to indicate the wall thickness. All these parameters are regulated by certain GOSTs.
By section type rolled pipes divided into two main types:
- with round section;
- profile products, products with square or rectangular cross-section.
The first type is used when installing various water systems- gas supply, construction of oil pipelines, construction, mechanical engineering and other industries. Profile products, usually, used in construction. Their significantly lower weight compared to round pipes makes it convenient to use profile pipes for mounting various frames. In this case, the metal structure is lighter, but at the same time quite durable.
There is also a third type of pipe with an oval cross-section. But it is used extremely rarely.
According to the production method, pipes are divided into:
- seamless;
- electric welded.
The first type of rolled pipe is widely used for installation of systems, working under pressure. The absence of a seam makes the pipe more resistant to high internal pressure. In this case, pipes can be produced as cold-rolled, and hot rolled. worth considering, that pre-hardening the metal makes it stronger. All electric welded pipes are subject to preliminary heat treatment.
Among other things,, rolled pipes can be galvanized, without it. This coating protects pipes from premature corrosion, which extends their service life.
