Removing old wallpaper easily

The fact, that before you start hanging new wallpaper you need to get rid of the old ones, no doubt. If you decide to skip this step during the redecoration process, then you can immediately say goodbye to a significant part of your money and time. The old coating is very weak, and new wallpaper along with a layer of glue will create additional stress. Besides, wallpaper, glued to an unprepared surface, will dry much longer.

To remove the old wallpaper layer you will need the following tools:

  • Several convenient, sharp spatulas of different sizes;
  • Special wallpaper remover, which can be easily replaced with plain water;
  • Ordinary roller;
  • Roller with spikes - they are convenient for perforating wallpaper;
  • Film:
  • Masking tape.

Before removing the wallpaper you need to do a little preparation, which will make your work easier. All wiring must be de-energized. Attach film or paper to the baseboard along the walls with tape. To prevent moisture or dust from getting into the sockets, it is also better to seal them. Each type of coating requires a unique approach, as well as sewing curtains to order, for this reason, the methods for removing them differ.

  1. The easiest way to remove vinyl wallpaper. Arm yourself with a knife and thoroughly scratch the surface of the wallpaper, and then wet them with water using a roller. After some time, water will dissolve the glue, and separating the wallpaper from the wall will not be difficult. The remains of the paper layer are also treated with liquid and removed.
  2. Non-woven and washable wallpapers practically do not react to moisture, so much more holes and damage to their surface will be needed, so you can use a roller with sharp spikes. But the special structure of such wallpaper is only beneficial - synthetic fibers make the material quite durable, and it does not tear during removal from the wall.
  3. The most problems arise with removing paper wallpaper. Paper is a delicate material, therefore, in the process of cleaning the walls, scraps and even entire canvases remain, which are quite problematic to remove. To avoid such troubles, you need to dilute a small amount of vinegar in water, wet the surface with a roller and let the liquid absorb. Next, large areas are removed methodically, first, and then small remains. To speed up the process, you can use special liquids for removing paper wallpaper or a steam generator.
